Online Microteaching

Online microteaching was quite a challenge, both technically and organizationally wise. I enjoyed that everyone was interacting and was patient with me when I was navigating how to use blackboard.

The part I did not enjoy was the fact that it takes quite long for learners to answer questions, switch mics on and off, trying to share screens and overall, just the technical part of everything. It is also difficult to know when a learner’s signal has been lost.

I learned how to share screens, how to show slides, ask questions and making sure how to manage the classroom online. I also learned that I should not be too stressed and focus on one thing at a time.

One thing that I wouldv'e done differently is that I would have chosen between doing the PowerPoint presentation or Kahoot and not do both. I would have also made sure that everyone was able to connect to Kahoot in a fast manner without confusion.

I wanted to use Kahoot to make sure that all learners were engaging with the lesson, to make sure no one felt left out and to assess whether or not all learners understood the content of the lesson.

By being able to see who answered the questions, who did not and who were able to answer correctly, I could see those who were engaging in the lesson. I would have liked to use an online sticker chart to showcase when someone did something well.

Since Covid-19, the schooling system has become vastly different. It is important that I understand how to do online teaching so that if anything happens in the future, that I am prepared and can continue teaching without the stress of not knowing how to do it online. This experience opened my eyes on different teaching styles, management tools and different ways to use technology in the class.

Thanks for the fun lesson and a very honest reflection.😊

You were very attentive to your learners and encouraged all learners to participate. Even with sharing your screen you still managed the chat box and raised hands well. Yes in the online space things do take longer- longer to raise a hand, type out the answer and yes even connect to a Kahoot. For your slice I agree doing both the PPT and Kahoot was ambitious but never the less you managed to get through it.

thanks Tasneem

Hello Gia❤️

Thank you for your wonderful lesson.

You were very attentive to all of us that attended.

Your lesson was informative and I enjoyed participating in your lesson and answering your questions that you asked us.

Although you struggled a bit with the KAHOOT, you handled the pressure well and were able to complete your lesson.

You are going to make a great teacher!

Natasha xx 😊
